Forest Stewardship Council certificate guarantees that the raw material comes from well-managed sources that care about responsible development of sustainable forest management. FSC is currently the most reliable system for certifying forest resources, supported by the major environmental organizations and numerous indigenous communities.
In the production of street furniture ZANO also cares about the environment by choosing green solutions. Therefore, apart from the use of timber from reliable sources, we use ecological paints, lacquers and oils. Many of our projects, like e.g. The City Lounge or The Bike Zone are environment-friendly, by promoting ecological lifestyles and introducing elements of urban greenery to city centers.
Wood care
Wood is a living material, which durability and beauty make it very popular. We invite you to familiarize yourself with simple methods of how to take proper care of it and to make it suitable for use for a long period of time.
Every 3-12 months, you should carry out maintenance operations (depending on the condition of the material), such as:
- Brushing – removal of dust, moss, resin and other residues. You should brush timber gently across the entire surface.
- Lacquer sandblasting – removing the top layer of lacquer. You should sandblast manually, moving along the wood grains.
- Sandblasting – removal of the entire protective coating. You should sandblast lightly, toward the bottom and reach the original wood surface.
- Application of lacquer – apply lacquer from one to the other end of the board and let it dry.

Thermo-Wood
What is important, we also use highly innovative and ecological Thermo-Wood.
Thermo-Wood is made during process of modification of wood under high temperature (ranging from 170°C to 230 C °) with steam. This technology leads to changes in the properties of wood, such as greater resistance to water and biological factors. Thanks to this process material becomes very stable and is not affected by fluctuating humidity of the environment in which it is situated. The modification process is completely eco-friendly and safe for the environment. Thermo-wood is recommended to be maintained as any other wood, but the difference is it does not require chemical impregnation.
The thermal treatment changes the color of the entire cross section of the timber element, the color is homogenous throughout the mass of wood. There is no problem of resin with hardwood, also on coniferous trees resin and its derivatives are completely removed.
What is more, the thermal modification increases the dimensional stability of the wood up to 50-60% in relation to the wood that was not modified. In practice this means that in our climatic conditions the wood becomes so stable, that there are no serious deformations of the elements – there may only appear slight superficial cracks.
